I rechecked the PictureCode website for new information about Noise Ninja, and after months of no updates there was a stability update last month, and they do look to be working on adding cameras. So that's encouraging. Yup, I myself prefer those to LR. However, I do hope Adobe does fix the X-Trans demosaicing some time.

I know this is nothing new but I just took delivery on a new Nikon D Can Anybody speculate when Adobe will have a camera raw that can read it? I was just wondering the same thing. Thinking of buying one do you like it so far and do you think it's much better than the D? I think the early shipping D came to Software vendors with a surprise. I've read that some camera makers do so, and so can be supported by such software from first delivery.

But I haven't read of Nikon or Canon doing so. My main cameras are Pentax. I shoot DNG, so my software products support raw files from my new main cameras without needing change. Ever since Canon DPP 4. Canon's own software just seems better at recognising their own lens profiles, the correction is better, and if I do need a program, I prefer Aftershot to Lightroom.

I don't know why many people are so dependent on Adobe to be honest. Otherwise, Lightroom isn't a raw converter thath gives lifelike acurate colors, simply because of its algoritms, but it has, I think, the best demosaicing method and the best noise reduction. DPP is one the most ugly programs i ever seen in my life. Just look at these jumping setting sliders Not only ugly but in the last version they tryed to copy Lr.

With low succes I don't think Canon will ever be able to make a good software to edit their raws. They relay mostly on the quality of the jpgs and thats why I think they don't even see how bad the raw's are compared to competitors. At least at low isos. Raw extraction software, now owned by Corel. They do add cameras--but slowly. You can find trialware of AfterShot2 on the Corel website, I recommend the pro version.

And v2 is an improvement over v1. Oh man treat yourself to C1, I use it all the time. Not fond of Photomatix or Nik. DxO doesn't have local adjustments. The only thing I prefer about DxO is its noise reduction but generally all my shots don't have any noise anyway. I like to push the image as far as I can while it is in RAW format before going to Photoshop so I am utilising the most information possible out of that image. Kind of OCD about this stuff.

If I were to buy a new camera today, it would likely be a Df of D and both would do me well for years. Not likely I realize. Then I'd upgrade from CS6. Pretty sweet deal in my books. You can install it on two machines if it helps. Josh Bailey: it is worth adding that the Photoshop in the CC suite is the Extended version, rather than the cheaper basic version.

That needs to be factored into the relative pricing. I realise that some people don't want Lightroom. One of the reasons that this "subscription versus purchase" debate will run and run is that people have different needs and values so are not comparing like with like.

And for now purchasing a perpetual license of LightRoom provides updates. So you can skip the CC thing entirely and still use LR, if you can stand the libraries. Adobe would well to release a perpetual version of LR 6 with a libraries normal mode and a libraries resource hog mode, and allow users to pick which mode LR 6 will use. And then there's the fact of having to pay even if you don't turn the computer on for 6 months.

Sorry, you're another person who has misrepresented the problem with the CC rental only model. I have no problem with Adobe offering a rental option, rental only is the problem.

Josh Bailey: You said: "PS. The way I think about it is that I am trying to get the histogram right in the raw converter Lightroom Develop module, or whatever while there are plenty of bits per pixel to work with. I'm less concerned with other aspects of editing, and often sort those out in Photoshop. And I only do stage-1 sharpening in Lightroom, because I don't know all possible destinations for the image.

With C1, it is a breeze. So I bought that especially since it is so cheap 27 Euros for the Sony only version.

Will give LR 6 a trial still. I have a copy of CS6 and there are many ways it is already out of date. Adobe refuses to keep old versions up to date on modern OS updates, at least in Mac, so you can't just keep running old versions forever, you need to update. Also your comparison is horribly flawed because between to you'd have bought a whole new major version if it weren't for CC. They barely identified it but it was there and you'd be behind with your CS6.

The "cheaper" claim does not tell the whole story, but it is not entirely wrong at all. Suggestion, don't "upgrade" every time Apple releases a new version of their OSX--you don't need the latest of whatever from Apple.

Example: Mavericks was unstable for a couple of months. Retouched 6 photos today and tonight time to do some concept artwork all in CC PS. I feel sorry for the people boycotting Adobe and are left with inferior software because of their hate. I always want the latest and greatest tools to do the most professional work anyway so I'll never end my subscription and guess what, if another software comes along that beats PS, I can cancel any time I want.

Capture One Pro if anyone is curious. And still be excellent software. Not upgrading slowly results in tons of software you depend on not working anymore, as well as issues with syncing between devices etc.

It's not like Windows where a version from 10 years ago is better than the one released last month ;. Those who are happy with old versions and are saving money with them should stay with them, but for Apple users at least the upgrade cycle is inevitable, so affordable upgrade pricing is a very sensible choice. FWIW it's also caused by Adobe themselves releasing buggy software.

CS apps always crash randomly on me which makes me want to upgrade in hopes of avoiding those crashes and often it helps. What I'm saying is it's because Adobe already sucks that we are addicted to updates, so the new pricing is just another sucky thing ;. Josh: Wow, what an advertisement for Adobe:"So happy If your Mac talks to your iPhone, leave both alone.

And "upgrade" neither. You don't need to replace hardware once a year either. Is there a reason why they haven't been able to do this yet? Is there an availability problem, or some extra feature that may make analysis and processing more complicated?

I'm actually a bit surprised that other cameras launched so recently are in the list. Has Adobe had access to their raw files for longer? I've seen that along incarnations of fuji exr-sensor travel zooms; I used to fool LR3 into digesting some newer RAFs by first opening the file in a binary editor and replacing the string with an older value. I've tested some software that even made its own guesses if it didn't know the camera. It was many years ago and I can't remember what it was.

But I think it catered for variants of the D70 that way. Adobe and I think most other software doesn't make such guesses. It would be a bit hit or miss! It isn't just a matter of the raw encoding format. Differences in the CFA colours would also cause problems.

I once found a variant of this. Phase One Capture One 4. But it checked whether the manufacturer was "Hasselblad", "Leaf", or "Mamiya", and if so deliberately refused to process the DNG! When I edited the name to an alternative string of the same length, it processed the DNGs!

I wonder if Capture One continued to do this? It simply hasn't occurred to me that "it isn't just a matter of the raw encoding format; differences in the CFA colours [too]".

BTW, this would be a hot topic, methinks, in these 6-figure-ISO days when camera makers apparently try harder than ever to balance sensor sensitivity vs color fidelity by tweaking CFA "transparency". Hence things that have to be catered for by DNG metadata. This table also serves to illustrate some of the things that raw converters have to take into account to get high quality images! Where did you read about mid April? I have no idea which source they have it from though, so we can only guess if it's yet another rumor or an actual statement from Adobe.

I only heard about mid April from another person who read it somewhere. I guess it doesn't really matter since the release is imminent anyway. Nothing spectacular. Too bad There has never been any difference in functionality so far. The engine that runs the editing module has been using the same ACR engine since the first release of LR.

Hard to beat C1 raw conversion, I am just hanging out for being able to stitch raw files together before going into PS and also keen to see how it handles HDR stacking. I would much prefer to work with raw file adjustments while stacked before going to PS.

For everything else, I will use C1. In the rumour notes it is stated that LR will receive better raw conversion but since that is Adobe Cam Raw and that saw an update recently that didn't seem to change anything I guess it is false. There is a lot of speculation about the date for Lightroom 6, linked to this announcement about ACR 8. The table at the link below gives dates for releases of ACR and Lightroom up to the end of Perhaps someone here can show the algorithm for predicting a new release of Lightroom based on releases of ACR, but I can't!

I might expect to see a Lightroom 5. I don't there ever was a Lightroom 1. But with CC the Photoshop numbering scheme has changed.

It adds support for Profoto's TTL flash system and also brings numerous new features and bug fixes. Read more. Due to the advantages of this image format and the possibility of reversing changes, many people recommend converting ordinary non-raw photos to this format so that they can be reverted to the original version in the future. This software has a simple graphical environment and the work of converting images to DNG format is done step by step and in the shortest possible time.
