Lollipop has a built in feature to get around this issue but it isn't present on android tv yet. Nvidia said they were working on this. I am not surprised that Google hasn't fixed it, since Google never finish anything they start, including Android TV. I am amazed that Shield TV came out without such basic features already fixed by Nvidia, though.

I need it for moving media files and other files around almost everyday on every Android device I use. Even my Ouya can do this. It's not something they Google want to fix, it was intentional. Apps can create folders on the SD card, but only on directories that they own. It was fixed by google in lollipop. The api was just not implemented into android tv.

Need this fixed. Is this in priority? I can't do it! Bump for a very frustrating issue. This needs to be resolved. ES is not using a hack. Lollipop implemented a way for users to approve apps writing to the SD card by specifically selecting the root folder of the drive and then granting access. Like someone said above, it appears that for some reason this API is not working on android TV despite it running lollipop. Android M should thoroughly fix this, but we shouldn't have to wait that long.

This needs to be fixed soon. This has been fixed and will be part of the OTA 2. Certainly not convenient, but I did survive this process. Thanks for the fix though ManuelG and the Nvidia gang! I don't root! Getting root with this thing is a bitch. I have to get exercise by unhooking the console and bringing it to my pc and that's a bad thing. Exercise is evil. Sure thing :.

I assumed this wasn't an issue until I tried moving some files to usb, looks like I'll be hooking My Draco back up. The folks behind ES File Explorer have thought about almost any method of file storage and access that you may need, as such, extra features to the app include a download manager , a built-in web browser, the ability to not only access FTP servers, but to turn your device into an FTP server itself to share specified folders, and more.

ES File Explorer can even start up its own wifi hotspot for other devices to connect with. Users are not happy about this decision, especially those that have invested hundreds of dollars on buying SD cards and applications which have been incapacitated by this change. ES File Explorer had a history of bypassing the default Android constructs by offering root capabilities , including access to system files. This same spirit is evident in their recent update, version 3.

Check for the update on your device, or hit the Google Play Store to download a fresh copy. The update to ES File Explorer will not bring back the required permissions to all of your affected apps. You can check whether your SD card reader has a drive letter assigned to it or not from the Disk Management utility.

If it is missing, you can assign a new one in a few clicks. Close the Disk Management tool. Disconnect and reconnect your SD card reader and check if it shows up in File Explorer. Is the drive letter available, but the SD card is still not showing up in File Explorer?

In that case, it's time to run the Check Disk utility to check and fix any memory card errors. It can scan drives for file system errors and bad sectors and fix them automatically. Your SD card reader may not show up in File Explorer because it's throwing up an error message, but the computer isn't showing you what that error message is. In such a situation, you can use the Device Manager to find the error. The device status shows if your device is enabled or disabled, followed by an error code or message.

If there is an error message, perform a quick search on the internet for it to find solutions. Your computer may fail to recognize or detect the external storage device due to outdated or missing device drivers. Fortunately, you can easily update device drivers from Device Manager.

After the drivers are installed, restart your PC. Connect your SD card reader again and check if it shows up in File Explorer. If the problem persists, perform a driver reinstall. If updating the device driver did not help, try reinstalling the SD card driver.

You can perform driver updates and reinstallation from the Device Manager. A corrupted SD card may not show up in File Explorer.
